The Poison Drink

The Poison Drink

Here is the clown who haunts you to drink poison. Always offering and trying his best to push it on you. This piece is not yet finished but I thought I would let you see it before I embellished it with 3 dimensional objects. If you would like to purchase this painting or any other originals of mine you can visit me at The Story Emporium. That is where they all live.

Watch us on The Rhode Show!

Last week Mary Larson visited our studio and interviewed Erin and her little visitors. The time it will be aired is yet to be known but I promise you, as soon as I get the information I will post it.

Also, now that Fall is here we have workshops planned once again. Please visit the event calendar link to see what we have in store for you. These workshops can be ordered online through the STORE link on our website http://www.thestoryemporium.org

This year our focus will be more on our visitors telling their stories rather than you listening to published authors talk about theirs. Don’t worry, we will still have visiting authors and illustrators visiting us. Some of the ways we plan to get you to tell your stories are

1. Art Journaling

2. Making and Sending Postal Art around the world

3. Poetry Slams 2 times a month

4. Open Writer’s Critique group led by a published author 2 times per month

5. Open Art Critique group lead by professional artists 2 times per month

6. Story Box and Story Book Theater workshops

The aim is to have our calendar full and our guests expressing themselves through storytelling whether it be poetry, drawing, painting, pen-pals, or puppet making.

Unfortunately our space is not huge so sign up early for any event you wish to attend. We are trying to keep the costs down for you because its no secret that we are all in hard times, but please keep in mind we do need to keep activities going so we do have to charge something.

With all that said I sure hope to hear from you and see you soon at one our workshops! Also, if you are interested in renting the Story Emporium for an event of your own on a Sunday you can contact Erin at erintwhalen@gmail.com.

Thanks so much for following us and joining in on the fun!

New beginnings

Its been at least a month since I wrote and painted but during this time a lot has happened. The first was an email notifying me that THE STORY EMPORIUM won BEST OF 2012 – “The best place to hear a children’s story” and I have to say I am honored! It is listed in the August RI Monthly Issue. Along with this great news I have been invited to be a guest on a Boston TV show to read to children which I am VERY excited about and in addition to that, I have been contacted by The Rhode Show for a day at THE STORY EMPORIUM! Such great things coming about, now if I could only get there LOL.

This summer I got a chance to teach in Boston and I have to say I had a wonderful time. That being said I would like to get some workshops going at The Story Emporium. I attempted to in the past only to get overwhelmed, however having a chance to teach elsewhere reconnected me with my love for teaching so I am eager to get some workshops going.

I am updating THE STORY EMPORIUM website and workshops now that I have internet access again so keep your eyes open and please, if you were disappointed before because a workshop cancelled don’t worry, things are in better order now and the workshops will be absolutely WONDERFUL.

I would like to end this post by thanking everyone who has followed and supported my art and writing in one way or another. It’s because of you that my career is flourishing.

Sincerely my friends…

Paintings going home…

Well it was a great run at the Warwick Museum of Art but today I am happy to say my illustrations go back home to The Story Emporium. The one’s that didn’t sell of course 🙂 I just want to thank everyone that went and supported me and for those who didn’t don’t you worry, there will be many more to come with new pieces!

Yesterday I finally dragged my butt back into the studio and prepped my workspace to create some new stuff which I’m really looking forward to making. As I work I will post my progress so you can see what’s coming your way.

Like always… thanks for following!
