I have been working on this clown cluster for about 3 days and only that long because painting is going slow. Sometimes it does that. I finally got into it by the time I made it over to the purple clown. Each one still has lots of detail work to be done but I wanted to show you the progress so far. This one measures 20 inches x 24 inches!!! Enjoy!
New England is looking at another winter storm and while most people are upset about it, I’m kind of excited. What’s better than hunkering down for 24 hours and painting, writing, or reading? Nothing that what! So the plan is to get to the studio and grab some supplies to enjoy while the snow falls. Lots of good food for the family and quiet time together…. so nice!
Here is the status of the painting in my last post. Slow going but will definitely be finished today and hopefully if the weather permits he will be for sale at THE STORY EMPORIUM on Saturday.
Hello my fellow clown lovers! I spent a good part of last night putting together 2 new paintings to display at The Story Emporium this Saturday. I have also decided to go ahead and put some price tags on the art work that wasn’t previously for sale so if you had been eyeing any of those pieces Saturday is the time to come grab them. I will post all of them here although the pricetags I put on them elude me right now… I’m typing from my comfy bed. 🙂
Starting with my newest clown from last night I will show you him raw (sketch) and then collage … to be painted today. I did work late last night but had to take a break and enjoy a cocktail. So as promised… he will be painted today.
This is my “Closed” clown. He cannot speak because his mouth has been shut with that contraption on it… you can’t read his eyes to know what he is thinking simply because he has a wall up so high you don’t know what is going on his head. Are his tears from frustration? Fear? Pain? Anger? Who knows… he’ll never tell. He’ll never open up to anyone and because of this he will never feel love…. because he refuses to let anyone in or out… he is what we call “The Player”Drying now and prepped for painting. The word closed appears over his head because he is just that … a closed book. Unreadable. He plays his hand of cards well although this doesn’t serve his own best interests it keeps him protected from ever feeling real love. So he is destined to walk through his life alone.
I did this one last night and is still in the laying out stage…
Clowns…. I don’t have a name for this one yet but the idea is forming. I played with layouts last night. I will definitely incorporate the film roll you see in the two corners and some empty polaroid pictures on the floor above the painting. The three clowns I’m using represent drinking, withdrawal, and the emotionally unavailable. The film strip represents the history that lead these clowns to be who they are today. It will possibly be framed in an old chainsaw chain representing how untouchable the emotionally unavailable are. This will also be finished and available this Saturday for open studio from 11- 2
After these are complete I will working on custom pieces for three new clients. If you or anyone you know is interested in having a custom piece made you can contact me at 401-316-3062 or email erintwhalen@gmail.com
Thanks so much for following and enjoying my artwork. When others look forward to my new pieces I find myself even more excited to continue creating.
Hello everyone. Once again the elusive artist comes out of hiding. I have posted my Art Shows and Book signings for 2013 on the “Art Shows” link. It may change as the times come closer so be sure to check back for updates. This year you can expect to see the Clown Asylum Series completed as well as my cast of characters from “A Trashy Novel” I will also sprinkle random seasonal characters throughout the year to put up for sale! I think 2013 will be a GREAT year for some very interesting paintings. As always… thank you for your support!
Halloween Withdrawal Clown from “Clown Asylum” series of paintings
I am pretty sure I haven’t posted this guy finished yet so here it is in all its creepy glory. He is the Clown that represents the withdrawal I get when Halloween goes away. I miss it so much! He is just one of the many phobia clowns I am creating in my “Clown Asylum” series. Once all of them are completed I will put them into a printed collection however each original clown painting is for sale to any art collector who is interested. Just email me at erintwhalen@gmail.com. (He still has to be mounted on his unique frame but you’ll have to visit The Story Emporium to see him.) All of my clown paintings will be displayed at The Story Emporium so feel free to come and visit on any Saturday from 9-1. For directions go to www.thestoryemporium.org
Its true! It’s that time of year again and Santa is making his rounds to visit all the children and adults that have patiently waited for him all year long! I managed to get a hold of him and ask him to stop in The Story Emporium to see my little visitors and he said YES! He will be visiting us from 10-1 on Saturday the 15th AND 10-1 on Saturday the 22nd!!! Come and get your photo with Santa then sign up for a special private story time with Santa along with milk and cookies — but hurry because space is limited to only 20 children. To sign up be the first to show up at The Story Emporium. We open at 9am.
Here is the clown who haunts you to drink poison. Always offering and trying his best to push it on you. This piece is not yet finished but I thought I would let you see it before I embellished it with 3 dimensional objects. If you would like to purchase this painting or any other originals of mine you can visit me at The Story Emporium. That is where they all live.
