MARCH INTO READING with Imagination

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairytales.”

Albert Einstein

Hello friends! Spring is upon us and and I am happy to say that I will be out and about visiting Rhode Island schools in 2020 to read THE CHARLIE’S HEAD book series.

It is the story about the TRUE power your imagination holds. A story that everyone needs to hear because once  the imagination is harnessed, you will be able to create the world you want to live in.

I will hold a Q & A and then close the visit with a book-signing.

CHARLIE’S HEAD… a series summarized

In the first book of the CHARLIES’ HEAD series we meet a boy named Charlie who learns through many mishaps that he has a powerful magic inside of his head. He is fearful of this at first but soon learns he can control it. He befriends his imagination which leads him to find the magic of creation.

We see him next in CHARLIE GOES TO SEA, where he teaches his best friend Ellie about the fun of creating whatever you want. Together they create a colorful and brave new world. In doing this, Ellie conquers her fear of crabs. They both realize now that two imaginations are more powerful that just one and they have the power to change things.

Not too long after we meet up with him again in CHARLIE GETS SPOOKED. He is with his Mom and two sisters when their Mom disappears. They are now lost in a costume parade when an evil Witch abducts the three of them. She attempts to steal their imaginative powers and bottle them up so she can sell the power potion to her evil friends! Charlie and his sisters combine their will to win. They team up and defeat her. After this frightening ordeal, they realize how much power the imagination actually holds and that it belongs only to them. Charlie and his sisters vow to always protect their new found power.

In the upcoming picture-book CHARLIE AND THE MISSING ELEMENT you will meet up with Charlie, Ellie, and his two sisters once again. The four of them work together and find their powers are super strong. They search for the missing element to animate the potion inside the bottle. The beautiful revelation they discover leads to the realization that together they can unlock super powers to create the world they have always wanted to live in.

THE CHARLIE’S HEAD SERIES teaches that all human beings have a special magic within themselves. You only need to find the missing element to activate it. Even the famous ALBERT EINSTEIN knew this.

In closing, I really look forward to meeting and speaking with my young readers. I am very excited to teach you about the world of imagination.

As always, thank you for your interest in following my work.

Stay Creative!

Latest Project…

Alice In Wonderland project illustration … Page 85 http://www.150alice.com

I had an amazing time creating this piece for the Alice in Wonderland project. It is for a coffee table book that will be printed in Norway.

The project is described by the creators as this…

150Alice is a project celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  We have brought together 150 brilliant illustrators from around the world that have each created a single page for this 300-page book.

The project promotes the illustrators’ art in a unique way and gives them an opportunity to create a masterpiece together. It provides them a platform to give back to the community by expressing themselves and sharing their talent with the world.

Lewis Carroll created Wonderland, and the story surrounding it, out of his love of entertaining children. His story gained great success and 150 years later is still enjoyed by children all over the world.

We are here to drive forward Lewis Carroll’s idea of encouraging art and creativity among children. At 150Alice, all profits from this book will be donated to educating children in China and Mongolia about art and creativity. With your generous support, we can help a generation of children develop a more vivid imagination.

……………………………….

I would like to thank both Sig and Thomas for letting me work on such an important project.

Please visit and support this project at http://www.150alice.com

Thanks so much!

Clown Cluster Coming Along…

Clown Cluster
The Clown Cluster

I have been working on this clown cluster for about 3 days and only that long because painting is going slow. Sometimes it does that. I finally got into it by the time I made it over to the purple clown. Each one still has lots of detail work to be done but I wanted to show you the progress so far. This one measures 20 inches x 24 inches!!! Enjoy!

Paintings going home…

Well it was a great run at the Warwick Museum of Art but today I am happy to say my illustrations go back home to The Story Emporium. The one’s that didn’t sell of course 🙂 I just want to thank everyone that went and supported me and for those who didn’t don’t you worry, there will be many more to come with new pieces!

Yesterday I finally dragged my butt back into the studio and prepped my workspace to create some new stuff which I’m really looking forward to making. As I work I will post my progress so you can see what’s coming your way.

Like always… thanks for following!

Post Surgery

Well I went ahead and did it. I had the spine surgery I swore I never would have. I was losing the use of my right arm and hand and fast! The doctors told me I may never draw again. What is an artist to do? Soooo, I took myself to the hospital (well my Mom did) and I went into the operating room hesitant mind you. But I did go in and thats what counts. Although my back problems are not cured I did regain the use of my right arm…whew! I am hoping that with my new cadaver bone (yes you heard me correctly) in my neck will work much better now, although the Doctors make no promises. I do want to show you some finished pieces I had not put up before. These pieces are for sale and can be found at THE STORY EMPORIUM in The Hope Artiste Village in Pawtucket RI on 1005 Main Street. Check them out:

Scituate Arts Festival

it’s 6:45am and I wanted to drop you a note to let you know that I am heading to the Scituate Arts Festival in about an hour. This year I am selling prints of my newest artwork along with The Charlie’s Head Series picture books. “A Trashy Novel” will be out in fall 2012 but you can come see the illustrations for the novel. (I do have some prints of the artwork for “A Trashy Novel”)I also have my new art studio calendar on display so be sure to take one when you visit.

The festival runs from 9-6 and is today, Sunday, and Monday so you have plenty of time to get there. I will be the one dressed in the witch costume on the front lawn of the public library.

Thanks for reading my blog and I hope to see you there!

Here is my current paint concoction (or however you spell that) being worked on at the new art studio. I haven’t been there much because of getting the kids ready to go back to school and all but I am inching along. Unfortunately, I have been told that I will be needing surgery ASAP for the numbness in my right arm. Yes, irony strikes once again…I am fortunate enough to have this wonderful art studio to work in and my drawing arm goes numb. Unbelievable huh? I can only draw and paint in tiny spurts right now because of the numbness and pain and the doctor says the nerve damage will be irreversible if I don’t get the surgery quickly. So alas, I must go under the knife if I am to continue drawing and painting. I have also been told that it is not 100% that the surgery will fix me so please cross your fingers, pray, or dance naked under the full moon for me…whatever it is you do to bring about results. I really need all the help I can get on this one. I will keep you in the loop on when the surgery is to happen and will soon put up my ‘studio hours’ so that you can come visit me and my characters in the works.

Until next time….night!

My art studio has been born!!!

I just started designing my new place… It’s called THE STORY EMPORIUM. Below is a description of what it is.

The Story Emporium is an art studio where children’s illustration can be purchased in the form of altered jewelry, prints, originals or books. I like to call it so much more than a children’s bookstore because not only can visitors come in and watch a children’s illustrator at work but 2 times a week we have visiting authors and illustrators who are interviewed for a local television station and a web show! Following each interview will be a book signing. Each visiting author will have their books for sale at The Story Emporium! In addition to our visiting authors we will have our resident storyteller for story times all week! Like I said…it is so much more than a children’s book store!

If you are a children’s author or illustrator and would like to be considered for an interview please don’t hesitate to contact me.
