More snow = More creative time!!!

New England is looking at another winter storm and while most people are upset about it, I’m kind of excited. What’s better than hunkering down for 24 hours and painting, writing, or reading? Nothing that what! So the plan is to get to the studio and grab some supplies to enjoy while the snow falls. Lots of good food for the family and quiet time together…. so nice!

Here is the status of the painting in my last post. Slow going but will definitely be finished today and hopefully if the weather permits he will be for sale at THE STORY EMPORIUM on Saturday.

This is the player... and he is almost done!

Until next time…. hopefully Saturday!!!!

ALL Paintings at The Story Emporium are for sale… With 2 new additions….

Hello my fellow clown lovers! I spent a good part of last night putting together 2 new paintings to display at ¬†The Story Emporium this Saturday. I have also decided to go ahead and put some price tags on the art work that wasn’t previously for sale so if you had been eyeing any of those pieces Saturday is the time to come grab them. I will post all of them here although the pricetags I put on them elude me right now… I’m typing from my comfy bed. ūüôā

Starting with my newest clown from last night I will show you him raw (sketch) and then collage … to be painted today. I did work late last night but had to take a break and enjoy a cocktail. So as promised… he will be painted today.

This is my "Closed" clown. He cannot speak because his mouth has been shut with that contraption on it... you can't read his eyes to know what he is thinking simply because he has a wall up so high you don't know what is going on his head. Are his tears from frustration? Fear? Pain? Anger? Who knows... he'll never tell. He'll never open up to anyone and because of this he will never feel love.... because he refused to let anyone in or out... so he is what we call "The Player"

Drying now and prepped for painting.
Drying now and prepped for painting. The word closed appears over his head because he is just that … a closed book. Unreadable. He plays his hand of cards well although this doesn’t serve his own best interests it keeps him protected from ever feeling real love. So he is destined to walk through his life alone.

I did this one last night and is still in the laying out stage…

Clowns.... I don't have a name for this one yet but the idea is forming. I played with layouts last night. I will definitely incorporate the film roll you see in the two corners and some empty polaroid pictures on the floor above the painting. The three clowns I'm using represent drinking, withdrawal, and the emotionally unavailable. The film strip represents the history that lead these clowns to be who they are today. This will also be finished and available this Saturday for open studio from 11- 2

It will possibly be framed in an old chainsaw chain representing how untouchable the emotionally unavailable are. This will also be finished and available this Saturday for open studio from 11- 2

After these are complete I will working on custom pieces for three new clients. If you or anyone you know is interested in having a custom piece made you can contact me at 401-316-3062 or email erintwhalen@gmail.com

Thanks so much for following and enjoying my artwork. When others look forward to my new pieces I find myself even more excited to continue creating.

The Poison Drink

The Poison Drink

Here is the clown who haunts you to drink poison. Always offering and trying his best to push it on you. This piece is not yet finished but I thought I would let you see it before I embellished it with 3 dimensional objects. If you would like to purchase this painting or any other originals of mine you can visit me at The Story Emporium. That is where they all live.

Watch us on The Rhode Show!

Last week Mary Larson visited our studio and interviewed Erin and her little visitors. The time it will be aired is yet to be known but I promise you, as soon as I get the information I will post it.

Also, now that Fall is here we have workshops planned once again. Please visit the event calendar link to see what we have in store for you. These workshops can be ordered online through the STORE link on our website http://www.thestoryemporium.org

This year our focus will be more on our visitors telling their stories rather than you listening to published authors talk about theirs. Don’t worry, we will still have visiting authors and illustrators visiting us. Some of the ways we plan to get you to tell your stories are¬†

1. Art Journaling

2. Making and Sending Postal Art around the world

3. Poetry Slams 2 times a month

4. Open Writer’s Critique group led by a published author 2 times per month

5. Open Art Critique group lead by professional artists 2 times per month

6. Story Box and Story Book Theater workshops

The aim is to have our calendar full and our guests expressing themselves through storytelling whether it be poetry, drawing, painting, pen-pals, or puppet making.

Unfortunately our space is not huge so sign up early for any event you wish to attend. We are trying to keep the costs down for you because its no secret that we are all in hard times, but please keep in mind we do need to keep activities going so we do have to charge something.

With all that said I sure hope to hear from you and see you soon at one our workshops! Also, if you are interested in renting the Story Emporium for an event of your own on a Sunday you can contact Erin at erintwhalen@gmail.com.

Thanks so much for following us and joining in on the fun!
